An Oklahoma summer brings about some of the best fresh fruit and vegetables! Summer days in Oklahoma are always filled with watermelons from Rush Springs and fresh tomatoes from local farms. Every year the Lawton Farmers Market celebrates tomatoes with its annual Tomato Festival.
This year’s festival is set for Saturday, July 12 in Lawton, Oklahoma. At the Lawton Farmers Market’s annual Tomato Festival, visitors can try and purchase several different kinds of tomatoes from various vendors. The market has multiple contests for the tomatoes and contests for yummy dishes made out of tomatoes, like salsa.
This year will be the 14th annual Tomato Festival hosted by the Lawton Farmers Market.
The annual Tomato Festival will also feature local art.
The Lawton Farmers Market Tomato Festival also includes local art. This year will be the 6th annual Lawton Farmers Market Art Show at the Leslie Powell Foundation Gallery in downtown Lawton. Every year the art show features local artists and their pieces that are either inspired by tomatoes.
The opening reception for this year’s art show will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 11 at the Leslie Powell Foundation Gallery in downtown Lawton.
The Lawton Farmers Market will also host a Pickle Festival.
Another annual festival the Lawton Farmers Market hosts is its annual Pickle Festival. This year’s Pickle Festival is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 9. The Pickle Festival often features similar contests to the Tomato Festival, but there is usually a pickle eating contest as well.
More information about the Tomato Festival and the Pickle Festival will be available closer to date. The Lawton Farmers Market is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday at its permanent location in downtown Lawton.
